Shop 4% Friday on April 26th to Support Community Action’s Adult Education

On the 4th Friday of every month, you shop and, together, we give! Skagit Valley Food Co-op’s 4% Friday Community Shopping Day recipients receive 4% of the day’s sales at the Co-op, so the more you put in your cart, the more you give back! On Friday, April 26th, 4% of sales will be donated to Community Action of Skagit County’s Adult Education Program.

Community Action fosters and advocates for self-sufficiency among low-income people in Skagit County. Community Action changes people’s lives, embodies the spirit of hope, improves communities and makes America a better place to live. Community Action’s Adult Education program believes everyone deserves the education they need to succeed and thrive. Low cost English Language Acquisition (ELA) and GED prep classes are available to members of our community. Unique to the program, is that Community Action also offers a supervised children’s activity program in which children receive a healthy snack and homework help, and participate in educational, engaging activities while parents are attending class. On average, the program serves roughly 110 students each year along with 45 of their children, and it engages approximately 30 volunteers as teachers, tutors, and children’s activity program assistants.

How will your shopping trip help Community Action?

More than 75% of Community Action’s Adult Education students are women, many of whom have expressed that they would be unable to pursue classes if it weren’t for the supervised children’s activities. 4% Friday will be used specifically to support children’s activities, giving Community Action the capacity to provide educational and engaging activities, so parents can attend the Adult Education courses without worrying about child care.
