Get to Know Our 1st Quarter Tokens for Tomorrow Recipients

Each quarter, Skagit Valley Food Co-op selects four Tokens for Tomorrow recipients. With Tokens for Tomorrow, every time you bring in a reusable shopping bag, we honor your commitment to reducing waste with a token worth 5¢ to give to Neighbors in Need Food Bank or one of four other local organizations doing great things for our community. Check out 2018’s 1st Quarter Tokens for Tomorrow Recipients:

Finney Farms Seed Distribution

The Finney Farm Seed Distribution has grown to a distribution level of approximately 10,000 packages of seed per year! They offer the seeds to local food banks, community garden projects, schools, low income households, etc. at no charge. For the past two years, Finney Farms Seed Distribution has partnered with agencies including WSU Skagit Extension, WIC, YMCA, and Head Start to offer free seeds at community garden education and backyard gardening workshops for low income families.

Skagit Conservation Education Alliance (SCEA)

Skagit Conservation Education Alliance, also know as SCEA, is working for the benefit of the greater Skagit ecosystem to protect water quality and watershed functions. The marine environment in Skagit County is home to important shellfish beds, fish habitat, hundreds of thousands of overwintering water fowl, productive eelgrass beds, and marine animals. SCEA works to protect, enhance, and live with the natural wonders in the Skagit Watersheds.

Food Action

Formerly the Washington Sustainable Food and Farming Network, Food Action is an advocacy organization working to create a healthy, just, and sustainable food system for all. Its goal is to reform our food system so that all people have access to GOOD FOOD — food that is affordable, clean, healthy, delicious, and ecologically and socially regenerative. Food Action is the steward of the Washington Food Systems Round Table Prospectus who created and are advancing the first-in-the-nation statewide “Food Bill” – the Washington Food Bill.

Skagit Habitat for Humanity

People in our community, and all over the world, partner with Habitat for Humanity to build or improve a place they can call home. Skagit Habitat for Humanity works alongside Habitat homeowners to build their own homes with an affordable mortgage. Habitat for Humanity helps homeowners achieve the strength, stability, and independence they need to build better lives for themselves and their families.
