Up-and-coming Wines from Ardor Cellars

I recently had the opportunity to meet Brandon Kubrock, owner of Ardor Cellars, and taste their wines. Ardor Cellars is quickly gaining recognition as a stellar producer. Brandon seems to know every vineyard and turn of the road in Walla Walla, and his experience and familiarity are serving him well in his young career.

2015 White Blend
Producer: Ardor Cellars
Varietal: 51% Picpoul, 49% Marsanne
Region: Walla Walla Valley
Price: $24.99

At 1100 feet, Los Oidos Vineyard on the south side of Walla Walla turns out to be a particularly good spot for these two uncommon-to-Washington grape varietals. Unusual, yet extremely well made and now sold out at the winery. Crisp, bright, clean minerality that speaks of France, but hails from Washington.

2013 Red Blend
Producer: Ardor Cellars
Varietal: 43% Syrah, 34% Grenache, 23% Mourvedre
Region: Columbia Valley
Price: $24.99

More and more Rhone style blends are coming from Washington, and are particularly well-suited for our state. This wine has a nose of black cherry, ripe plum, and pepper. Rich, savory mineral notes from the Syrah, roundness and fruit sweetness from the Grenache, and bright, spicy finish from the Mourvedre.

CV is quick to say that he’s not a wine “expert” — he’s not the person to go to for fancy terminology — but he does know wine, and approaches it with robust energy and a desire to match wine with people, food, and experiences.
