CV, the Wine Guy, talks Washington’s Arbor Crest

Arbor Crest Wine Cellars is one of the oldest wineries in Washington: it was the 29th bonded winery, and was one of the pioneers of Washington wine making. Arbor Crest was founded in 1982 by Harry and Marcia Mielke. Their daughter, Kristina Mielke-van Löben Sels, became head wine maker in 1999. Arbor Crest remains family-owned and -operated, and has long-term contracts with some of the best growers in the state, which allows them to offer a wonderful product at an affordable price. Both Arbor Crest wines featured below are $9.99 each.

Arbor Crest Chardonnay 2013
Columbia Valley, Washington
Fermented & Aged in Stainless Steel
This full-bodied blend of 100% Chardonnay from two unique Columbia Valley vineyards (Conner Lee & Bacchus Block 7) features peach, apricot, honey, and toasty flavors. The combination of these two vineyards yields a wonderfully rich wine that is creamy without falling flat, with a light, crisp finish.

Arbor Crest Sauvignon Blanc 2014
Bacchus Vineyard, Columbia Valley, Washington
Arbor Crest’s Sauvignon Blanc is made entirely from fruit was the well-regarded Bacchus Vineyard, in the Columbia Valley. The Sauvignon Blanc is also unoaked, so it’s very crisp. All of the fruit is from the prestigious Bacchus Vineyard. Bacchus is part of the larger Sagemoor Vineyard, which is north of the Tri-Cities, on the banks of the Columbia River. Arbor Crest’s Sauvignon Blanc is not as acidic as some of the New Zealand or Californian Sauvignon Blancs, but it has a nice crispness to it that comes from Bacchus’ cooler evening climate — as compared to grapes grown in California.
