Hahn Cellars for Mother’s Day

Located in the highlands of California’s Central Coast, Hahn Cellars has been crafting beautiful wines since 1980. This week, we are featuring two wines from Hahn Cellars’ most affordable line. The winery’s founder, Nicky Hahn, grew up speaking German. In his native language, the word ‘Hahn’ means rooster, which is why a depiction of this bird has always graced the label of Hahn wines. From the beginning, Nicky strove to produce exceptional varietal wines from Monterey County where Hahn’s vineyards and winery are located.

This assemblage of classically-styled varietal wines are now under the care of second-generation vintner Philip Hahn, who proudly carries on his father’s legacy. While Hahn is a tried and true, well-established winery, it also continues to explore new ways to craft exceptional wines. Vintage after vintage,  Hahn wines are styled to be fruit-forward, balanced, and supple. The Hahn family vineyards in the Santa Lucia Highlands and Arroyo Seco AVAs are a significant source of fruit for these wines.

We selected these wines for Mother’s Day for a good reason. If you are planning on buying a bottle for the mother (or mothers) in your life this weekend, we highly recommended picking up one of these. You’ll be her hero.

Hahn Cellars 2014 GSM
Varietals: Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre
Region: Soledad, Central Coast, California
Price: $11.99
An elegant ruby purple in the glass, you are immediately greeted by enticing fragrances of violets, wild blueberries, and hints of cardamom and cedar. Bright layers of strawberry and red cherry delight the palate, followed by subtle spice and black pepper. Incredibly well-balanced acidity and tannins carry through to the smooth finish. Hahn’s GSM is juicy: you may not have juice dripping down your chin, but you very well could.

An inspirational blend of Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre from the Central Coast.

Hahn Cellars 2015 Pinot Gris
100% Pinot Gris
Region: Soledad, Central Coast, California
Price: $11.99
A classic California Pinot Gris with aromas of peach, tart pear, and banana. You’ll experience a silky mouthfeel with crisp acidity that showcases notes of meyer lemon and green apple on the finish. Hahn Cellars’ Pinot Gris pairs well with spicy grilled prawns, pasta with cream sauce, and seared sea bass.
