Root: 1 Heritage Red & The Jack Chardonnay

Root: 1 Heritage Red
Varietals: Cabernet Sauvignon, Petite Verdot, Syrah, Carmenere
Region: Colchagua and Maipo Valleys, Chile
Price: $9.99
Awards: 90 points, Wine Advocate; Wine & Spirits
A delicious blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Petite Verdot, Syrah, and Carmenere. Carmenere grows especially well in Chile, and adds a fun layer of dark fruit notes. This is a wine that is quite fruit-forward, but not too jammy. Expect a full-bodied, rich exploration of silky tannins and ripe cherries and blackberries. Root: 1 Heritage Red pairs well with BBQ steak, spicy shrimp, or a colorful, fresh stir-fry.

Review:  “An untamed blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Carmenere, Syrah, and Petit Verdot, this was born of a very cold harvest, and sustains nerve and tension in its acidity. The wine’s notes of eucalyptus blend with red fruit flavors, bright and cheerful as they play against electric tannins. A delicious wine at a great price, this would be a star on any list of wines by the glass.” 90 points, Best Buy ~ Wine & Spirits, 2014.

Saviah Cellars The Jack Chardonnay
Varietal: 100% Chardonnay
Region: Columbia Valley, WA
A smooth wine made from one of Walla Walla’s founding wineries and winemakers, Saviah Cellars, which is run by Rich Funk. A delicious wine which is a perfect aperitif or can be easily paired with an array of Northwest cuisine. It opens with scents of pear, apples, and tropical fruit with hints of vanilla. The palate is fresh, clean, and crisp with beautiful balance expressed through flavors of stone fruit and Gala apples.
