Co-op Signage & Labels

Browse the Co-op shelves and you’ll see different types of labels and signs. Some of our sale signs apply to member-owners only, others are for everybody. Learn more about our signage with this quick guide to understanding what our labels mean.

  • Local

We define “local” products as those made in a location that can be reached in a 4 hour drive from us, roughly a 250 mile radius from the Skagit Valley Food Co-op in Mt. Vernon, WA. (This area includes Vancouver, B.C., Bellingham, Seattle, Tacoma, Olympia, Portland, and Wenatchee.)

  • Non-GMO Project Verified

This label denotes products that have been certified as containing no genetically modified ingredients by the Non-GMO Project. The Non-GMO Project is a non-profit organization committed to preserving and building the non-GMO food supply, educating consumers, and providing verified non-GMO choices. We carry approximately 1,800 Non-GMO Project Verified products.

  • Gluten Free

An item made without the protein gluten, found commonly in grains and flours, including wheat, rye, semolina, and barley. Technically, the Food and Drug Administration defines “gluten free” as any food containing less than 20 parts per million of gluten.

  • Co+op Deal Signs

The Skagit Valley Food Co-op is a member of National Co+op Grocers (NCG), a “cooperative of food cooperatives,” which represents hundreds of food co-ops in the United States. Our member-owners receive special sales and coupons based upon our partnership with the NCG. These sales are only available to our member-owners, seniors, and members of other co-ops.

  • Green Sales Signs

This sale lasts the entire sale period, and sale pricing is only available to member-owners of the co-op, as well as seniors and members of other co-ops.

  • Burgundy Sales Signs

This sale pricing is available to everyone who shops at the co-op, including non-members. It lasts the entire sale period.
