Cheese Whisperer: Gifts of Cheese & Cheese Accessories

How best to show someone your holiday spirit of caring and sharing? With cheese and cheese accessories, of course!

Visit cheese island and the mercantile department to gather gifts for the cheese lovers on your list. The Co-op Cheese Department carries an array of tasty fig spreads, salted Marcona almonds and other goodies to accompany cheese.

Some notable curds for the holidays:

Mt. Townsend Truffle Stack – this locally made (from Port Townsend, WA) soft ripened cheese is infused with black truffles and has a velvety texture with deep, rich earthy flavor. Serve with sparkling wine and raspberries. This stellar cheese makes an elegant, gourmet gift for foodies!

Coach Farm Triple Cream Goat – an artisan specialty from New York State, Coach Farm’s triple cream goat cheese is buttery and slightly tangy. It’s a lovely option to serve with cheese condiments: Leatherwood honey, Spanish preserved pumpkin or local Willowrose Quince Jam from Guemes Island, WA.

Tumalo Farm’s Jewell – a Pacific Northwest treat, Tumalo Farm’s Jewell is made from a delicate combination of farmstead goat and organic cow’s milk. This cheese is named Jewell in honor of Margie Jewell DeCastilhos, co-founder of Tumalo Farms, who passed away from cancer in January 2010. Now she remains part of something positive and delicious at Tumalo Farms, where she is fondly remembered as a selfless, smart, and charismatic person.

Dorset Drum – a lovely mature farmstead cheddar cheese from Dorset, England, comes sealed in a black wax drum to protect flavor. Wrap it up in a basket with apples, pears and crusty bread to make a classic seasonal gift for cheddar hounds.

Other notable cheese accessory gifts: Ricki Carroll informative and instructional book, Home Cheese Making or perhaps a cheese grater for the kitchen.

However you celebrate the holidays with cheese, may they be merry and bright!
