Local Goodness: Whidbey Island Ice Cream Bars

icecreamwhidJust when you thought ice cream bars couldn’t get any better the Co-op’s Grocery staff found some that are just that: better! Now on sale in our grocery freezer aisle are Whidbey Island Ice Cream bars, available in multiple flavors including Coconut, Orange Chocolate, Skagit Triple Berry, Mukilteo Espresso and classic Chocolate.

There are several reasons these ice cream bars are delicious. First of all, each batch of Whidbey Island ice cream is handmade and tested to ensure its excellent quality. The company also uses old fashioned ice cream molds and small scale equipment to craft these special bars in their small factory.

whidbeybarsWhidbey Island Ice cream is also made from traditional, natural ingredients. Rich, high quality cream from family-owned dairy Lochmead Farms in Junction City, Oregon ensures each bar has an exquisite texture. The dairy is owned by the Gibson family, whose passion for sustainability is the foundation of a family business that has been part of the Willamette Valley for four generations. Mukilteo Espresso flavored ice cream bars are made using the Mukilteo Coffee, freshly roasted in a vintage roaster in a forest on Whidbey Island. Finally the ice cream bars are dipped in artisan E. Guittard chocolate from San Francisco to impart a rich, decadent chocolate flavor to each treat.

What could be better: freshly churned ice cream encased in a just-the-right-thickness chocolate shell? Each bar is a sweetly dipped masterpiece. Get ’em while you can! On sale now for $2 a piece!
