The Next Chapter: on Growing Old, Infirmities, and Making Friends with the End
With Rick Gossett
April 20th 6:30 pm Co-op Room 309 Free

"AND NOW FOR THE REST OF THE STORY!" -Paul Harvey
If you recognize the above then you are the right age. Come and join me for an evening at the Skagit Valley Food Co-op where we will look at the next chapter in our lives: the one about growing old, dealing with infirmities, and finally dying.
I feel like my whole life has been in preparation for this next chapter where I am dealing with growing old and having a diagnosis of Parkinson's. All those skills I have learned and those experiences I have had - have been for this very time. You too have wisdom. Let's share. It will be a feast spread before us.
Rumi says:
"Now is the time the particle you are returns from where it came. The family darling comes home. Wine without being poured in cups, is handed all around; a red glint appears in a granite outcrop and the whole cliff turns to ruby."
Rick Gossett has lived in the Skagit Valley for 38 years. He raised three sons, helped found the co-op, and accompanied a great number of folk as they walked their life path.

Creating Vibrant Health: Incorporating Superfoods
and Internal Cleansing into your Wellness Program
With Doug Walsh
Friday April 30th 6:30 pm Co-op Room 309 Free

Our bodies were not designed for life in the modern industrial age. The average human in the United States is exposed to 2 million toxic molecules per day - we live in a virtual chemical soup. Combine this with the fact our foods are often over-processed, overcooked, and full of chemicals. Our soils (and therefore our foods) are so depleted that many in this country are actually malnourished in the micronutrients (minerals and vitamins). Any quality health program will thus have two crucial aspects – supporting your bodies’ detoxification efforts and upgrading your nutritional intake. Come hear HealthForce Nutritionals representative Doug Walsh present cutting edge solutions that will assist you in creating a radical shift in your physical health.
Doug Walsh has been a raw foodist for 14 years, and has been consuming superfoods for over 20 years. In 2005, Doug walked across the country on the 3,000 mile Continental Divide Trail in order to demonstrate the power of a raw food diet high in superfoods (see www.rawhike.com). Doug is a certified raw food chef, and he has done workshops to assist people in upgrading their diet all across the country. He is passionate about helping people improve their health. He holds a magna cum laude BA in Physics and a Master’s degree in Education.

Giving Babies the Best Possible Start in Life
With Sue Ann Chilcote
Saturday May 1st 1-3pm Co-op Room 309 Free

Experiences in the first few years of a child’s life are vastly more powerful in determining the course of their lives than at any other time. How infants are treated during this important period sets the stage for all later development. A sense of self is formed and a basic pattern of attachment—secure or insecure—is established. When an infant’s needs are met, she feels valued, loved, and secure, and she learns to trust the world. In this class, we will discuss the importance of considering the infant or toddler’s perspective and how to get in tune with the child in order to learn her preferences and to understand her communication. The class will be set up in the format used for parent-infant classes, so people can get a feel for what these classes can offer.
Sue Ann Chilcote earned her Early Childhood Education certificate from Cabrillo College in Santa Cruz, California. She also studied the RIE philosophy in Los Angeles and earned the title RIE Associate, certifying her to teach parent-infant guidance classes. Sue Ann has worked with infants, toddlers, and families for over 20 years and brings a wealth of insight to working with young children respectfully. Sue Ann is opening an infant child care in her home and offers parent-infant guidance classes. Feel free to call for more information: (360) 333-0039.
