Shop 5% Friday on September 26th to Support Children of the Valley

Children of the Valley provides a safe, positive, and enriching after-school program for under-resourced, low-income children throughout the Mount Vernon, Sedro Woolley, and Burlington School Districts. COV now supports up to 200 students in grades K-6 who attend each of their district's elementary schools.

COV serves the communities' most under-resourced students in need of a safe place to go after school. As a free after-school program, not only is COV a safe and nurturing environment for our community’s most vulnerable children, COV also provides academic assistance, enrichment activities, mentorship, family support and social-emotional learning for the students it serves.

How Will Your Shopping Trip Support Children of the Valley

5% Friday funds will be used to maintain and expand COV’s monthly cooking club to serve all four program sites. Each month, the COV cooking club features dishes that align with cultural-based themes, where lesson plans focus on exploring different cultures through crafts, games, stories, music, and food. With this grant, COV will purchase the necessary supplies to cook with students, such as raw and fresh ingredients, kitchen tools, sanitary supplies and other items needed in order to enable the students to experience the art of cooking different foods from around the world.

By engaging in hands-on cooking activities, COV students will not only learn about diverse cultures, but also build life skills, broaden their palates, and gain a deeper appreciation for global traditions. The funds will directly support the continuation and expansion of this enriching program for all students.
