Skagit River Bridge Closure

The SR 536/Skagit River Bridge is getting fresh paint! The bridge was last painted in 1990, and this painting project is intended to preserve and extend its service life. Starting on Thursday, June 11th at 6pm, there will be a full eastbound directional closure with an exception for emergency response vehicles. All eastbound passenger and freight vehicles must follow a signed detour.

The bridge will remain open to pedestrian and bicyclist traffic during the project, and a free shuttle service will be available for pedestrians and bicyclists who wish to cross during any full closure of the bridge. Pick-up and drop-off points have not yet been determined but will be located near both ends of the bridge.

Construction is expected to be complete in April 2027.

Worth the trip!

The Co-op recognizes the inconvenience of this closure, especially for our neighbors just over the bridge in West Mount Vernon, and for all the small businesses in Downtown Mount Vernon. We hope you don’t let the detour deter you and you continue to support our vibrant small business economy by shopping local as often as you can.
