The mission of Immigrant Resources and Immediate Support (IRIS) is twofold: to connect immigrants with existing resources in the community, and to provide immediate assistance to those experiencing a temporary period of crisis. IRIS serves immigrant families in Skagit and Whatcom counties, and its focus is on increasing access to its services in rural areas and serving single mothers and farmworker communities.

Due to the current political climate, many immigrant families are facing the challenges of forced separation. IRIS plans to use funds from 5% Friday to help cover the costs of legal consultations and retain legal fees, thereby supporting immigrant families in staying together. About two years ago, IRIS recognized “legal fees” as a “basic need”, and have seen the positive difference this has made in the lives of local immigrants.
